My Official Hellen Mirren response:
Although I don't disagree with her, perhaps what she meant to say was that our current justice system is not built to handle these cases, nor would a woman necessarily want to prosecute in court. She neglected to mention that men should face consequences for their actions, and women have the right to justice. These actions should not go unacknowledged or unpunished simply because there is a lack of capability and willlingness in our society to deal with sexual violence.
Sadly, she's emblematic of the generation where women did not have the right to come forward, and as we all know, when they do come forward - they are blamed. I think we'd be hard pressed to find one functioning justice system that doesn't do a massive disservice to victims.
