Is Etai a Hater?

We made an agenda of things we need to discuss. Avishai and I fall on the same side of some debates, and I'm usually in opposition with Etai.

Our first topic is: "French People." I can't stop talking about how many Jewish froggies are roaming the holy land, and as sad as it is for France, not to mention shameful (tant pis) my assumption is that an influx of French anything is usually pretty good. Avishai agrees, he spends part of his life in amsterdam working as an art dealer, so he gets the Euro thing. Etai thinks "they're fucking disgusting" and scream and shout louder than Israelis. They've also come and bought up tons of property and priced out Israelis. The plot thickens. I'll investigate. It also seems that the more religious French, those that are leaving, are middle-class and the ones that play thugs, tailors or nags in most French movies (and yes, that's very pc-American of me to point out, mais c'est ridicule). But where does the bleach blonde chain smoking falafel goddess of Rue des Rosiers fit in? She belongs on a throne.

We didn't have time to touch on our next topic, who is the moral center of Israel -- is it A.B. Yoshua, Amos Oz, Yehuda Amichai or Daniel Grossman? I don't know Grossman, don't love Oz, and don't see any women represented. Can't say I know nearly enough to even hedge a guess... must read more.

And lastly, mentioned in passing, is why Etai hates Israeli culture. Hm. He can't and would never live anywhere else and loves living here, but prefers the culture of "the diaspora Jew" to that of the Israeli. This is a topic I love exploring especially how it relates to masculinity and violence. That one is juicy.

But my favorite topic, of course, is how I'm not really American, but actually I'm part-Israeli. I always dig that.
