Can't sleep don't know why
I'm not sure its jet lag. Have a big meeting today in 3 hours with a bunch of editors at a very well known paper. I guess I'm nervous? Not sure. We are ironing out a little problem, perhaps its the challenge of dealing so early in French and so many of them? Or I'm developing a small crush on my ambassador so I also have to deal with what to wear? Or I'm getting hit with reverse jet lag? I had bizarre dreams last night, came home late, Thomas and Nico I think were in bed asleep but they made the bed for me... but their light was on? So it was sort of not being sure I would wake up in time for this meeting, or where they were. Je ne sais pas.
This trip is intense and a bit much to digest (like French food). I was in the private cafe in the Figaro building yesterday with a very famous young TV personality... maybe sort of a Jon Stewart meets DJ Dimitri from Paris? We were talking about film projects and magazine projects. I'm not sure if any of it will pan out, but apparently it was quite a coup that I met him. He is promising to take me out tonight, but we'll see -- as I'm up at 5am -- and he didn't seem like the most reliable person.
I saw my dear friend Caroline last night, looking beautiful as ever. We had a long lovely dinner, but got lost on the way to the restaurant together and she tried to take me to a rubber and leather dungeon in a certain part of town. Some restaurants really are under the radar!
Tonight I have dinner with my friend from high school, Celine, who is after traveling the globe finally settled in Paris with her husband. Will be very funny and cute to spend the evening speaking French together, considering I went to bad goth dance clubs with her in rural skinhead PA when were were 16. Those were the days.
I'm still trying to figure out how Jews feel in Paris, the political, social and intellectual climate. Amazing that at this time, certain people are really ready to make something like Heeb in Europe -- they are ready for a renaissance -- although they are four years late, perfect timing for me, as I'm here!
