Eat Bertha's Mussels

I just had mussels in a haunted brothel called "Bertha's" on a cobble stone side street in Fell's Point, Baltimore. Seems Fell's Point - home of "Bertha's," "The Admiral's Cup," "And the Horse You Rode In On," and the "Dead End Saloon" is a veritable nest of pirate's and ghosts... The old port section of Baltimore boasts the spirit of Edgar Allen Poe among the many ghosts to haunt the 18th century taverns and saloons. Poe died in a gutter, after passing out from whiskey at "And the Horse You Rode In On" and was buried in an unmarked grave in the neighborhood. They later had a fundraiser with Longfellow and others to get him a gravestone.

"Bertha's" is a converted brothel now beerhall serving up delicious mussels in countless dipping sauces. Since we (me) are still observing Passover, I skipped the bread and the crust on my cheesecake. But slurped down the shellfish with relish.

Currently, having a quaint little love affair with the Bay-side Balts. Induced by a closeness to my boy and a salty tinge to the air, AC DC blasting from the bars, a general rough around the edges charm. The place is good for a beer, a stroll, a crab and a boat, if you got one. Saw some modern sailor/pirates, ie. crusty beer drinking lads on a trashed up boat preparing to head out to sea... made me dreamy.

How long would it take me and cameraman to sail to Greece? I wonder... I'm here alone in his overly fancy ABC Bay-side pad finishing up some computer work and pining. Leaving tomorrow for New York, gets harder to leave each time. Soon will face another three week stretch of separation. Gr. Oh well. This is life.
