The Midtown Scene?
Not only do people work in Midtown, they eat there and go out there! Midtown! And they usually wear blue shirts (the girls included) and spend $40 on a plate of pasta. I had a businessy meeting with an analyst that started at the W hotel Whiskey Bar at 5pm. Then there was dinner on 54th street, I have never seen so many young people looking like old people. We were there with a beautiful Korean "singer" and a Virgin Media executive. She kept saying her music was "hard to explain" and "complicated." She and I wolfed our food, or I tried to but by then I was drunk. Although she too lives in Midtown (?) and hangs out in expensive places, I have the feeling she doesn't have much of a fixed income. The two fat cats barely cared about their truffle pastas and some girl joined us for a quick 2 drinks that she banged down before going to couple's therapy.
Then it was the rooftop of the Peninsula Bar (cigars, men, humidity) and then it's a blur.
I was getting a taste of "New York's Gilded Age," enjoyed by a select few, and filling in the "pretty" or "bohemian" slot.
I think I don't go out enough. I like the dives and the gays, clearly where I'm most comfortable. I don't expect the city to entertain me or provide for me, I came her to add to it. To provide and create and hang out with other creators. But oh how we creators need patrons!
Then the night topped off with my leaving my cell phone in a taxi and now I'm phoneless and hungover and getting on a plane.
