Couch Surfing in Tel Aviv

Is totally exhausting at my age. I spent Monday - Wednesday in Tel Aviv digitizing at Ruthie's house all day and working at night. I helped Ilil with a proposal my first night until 3 am, then battled her two enormous cats for a place on the bed -- I'm sorry I don't have photos. Will definitely photograph Norman, you will be shocked. He's at least 45 pounds. And aggressively loving. I brought so much stuff w/me to Ruthie's -- both cameras, my hard drive and laptop, all my dv tapes and a toothbrush. My next purchase in the future is a teeny digital camera. Its more important to have it all the time than to have higher res images, is my conclusion.

Ruthie lives in an apartment dangling over the Mediterranean at the Jaffa port. Its like being on a raft -- all you see from her living room is undulating, blue waves.

She and I start editing Monday. I am excited and terrified. Mauricio called me last night and we talked. I'm projecting all these stupid fears onto the big fear -- which is going into that room for 13 sessions, battling it out, and creating something. I'm not handing it over to her -- but we're going to start collaborating. I've done this with Heeb -- its gutwrenching, you question your taste, intelligence, choices, you can lose footing. Ruthie is great -- and wants this to succeed, so its not that she has an agenda -- I'm just feeling intimidated and nervous about doing this for the first time.

So instead, I'm projecting all these other stupid issues out into the world -- like, I look like shit, I'm broken out, my hair is awful, I'm out of shape, blah blah blah. On the plus side, I went to two belly dancing classes this week, a yoga class and tomorrow I'm going to Hip Hop.

Have a big shoot on Sunday -- and meeting a new DP today. At least now I know what my real fear is -- so I can ease up on all the other crap.
