Holy Shit -- Hamas

Hamas is in. And Jerusalem is barricaded, or lots of the streets seem to be. But I'm at Ruthie's from now on, in Jaffa --- which means little breaks to run upstairs and look at the ocean, make coffee, etc., but mostly downstairs in the editing room.
We're all scrambling to get proposals into HotDocs and I've been helping Ruthie and Anat with their English -- Anat is doing a film set in Jerusalem (another incredible and hard-hitting critique of religious society and its oppression of women) and reading her stories and depictions of Jerusalem really paints a grim picture.
I had beautiful, quiet moments here, mostly with Americans and other misfits, or alone, but certainly not entrenched in the religious world. Jerusalem means so many things to so many people -- and for the majority of Israelis, or Tel Avivis, it means Fundamentalism, Hatred and Heartache.
Jerusalem. Israel. Palestine.
All the same -- my last few nights here -- so good to have my own bed, my own place-- will clean, up and pack up and then head to Ilil's for the week -- she is incredibly laid back (chaotic and nuts, too) but a much better arrangement then my "petit tyrant" of a cousin, D. Also known as "the uptight fascist" or "the macho Jewish mother."
