12 minutes 42 seconds

Holy Fucking Shit.
I just digital cut (ed?) meaning outputted to my tape, will output to the hard drive and then pack it up and call it a day. I'm waiting for Ruthie to do the rest of the outputting -- so ecstatically typing and eating her organic goat's cheese-- watching the stormy stormy sea. Yesterday was a sandstorm from the Sahara --the streets were whipped by sand blowing in from Africa -- and then it poured and thundered all night. The storms here are dramatic.

WE DID IT!
ok, just this one part. We have "a beginning" but what's most exciting -- really exciting is that I have an aesthetic style. I have a narrative, a character and the beginning of a structure -- but we have something that looks amazing -- with (right now) just a few aesthetic compromises.

Adi is Ruthie's husband -- he's a cinematographer -- and he wants me to go for it, and shoot the whole thing. This is amazing! Such a push forward-- I've been so bothered by the standard "talking head interview" form that was appearing -- and having worked with four cinematographers since I've been here-- and really not felt great with any of them, this solves the aesthetic issue of "who is making the film?" I am shooting, I was shooting, I will keep shooting -- and you'll get to see me, but in creative ways. And direct ways too, but the camera is mine again, and the point of view is mine again. This is really exciting.

I have a month and a half to continue the script, gather images, get interviews and conversations, etc. until Ruthie and Adi come to the States and we continue editing.

So writing and shooting lay ahead....

Tonight is my going away party -- the cast of characters includes: Ilil, my fantastic hostess, Etai and Ma'ayan, maybe Ruthie and Adi, Enia, my Jerusalem home girl, J. the Arabian millionaire, Michal, my friend from the Rape Crisis Center, Michal and Gideon, my awesome cousins, and maybe Udi -- the cute kid from film school...

Ilil is planning for us an after-dance party at her place.

And then I'm off to Berlin!!
