Katie Fucking Roiphe
Oh My God I fucking hate her. Its 12 years after her seminal "The Morning After: Sex, Fear and Feminism" and I am so agitated reading it. She's now writing for Salon.com, lumping feminists in one neat category and continuing to piss me off.
WHY IS SHE SUCH A HATER?
I'm reading this book, because I want to interview her (I think) for the film. Facing her will probably be one of the hardest tasks I've come across- because almost everything she says makes me want to fucking throttle her. Violently.
The book is drenched in red ink. The bottom line, the gut response to her critique (a curly haired Jewish version of Ann Coulter, this one) is that this girl IS A HATER. She has no empathy. She's an opportunistic one-noter.
What got me off the couch to come write was her comment on page 75 devaluing Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome:
"Of course sophisticated modern day feminists don't use words like "honor" or "virtue" anymore. They know better than to say rape victims have been "defiled" instead, they call it post traumatic stress syndrome.
What exactly is Dr. Freud, I mean, Dr. Roiphe talking about. Oh -- female hysteria?
She goes on about the absurdity of linking Rape with Murder. The Kabbalah and the Torah link a rape to a murder, she questions this as if Andrea Dworkin and the crazy feminists invented this hsyterical notion. Its an old idea rooted in valuing the body as a whole, as wholly yours, the Kite Runner has a rape that is the corner stone for the immense loss, degradation, confusion and shame that trails the two characters in the book. This is a boy in Afghanistan, you'd think he'd have bigger problems then a little rape. But that's the crux of the book and the conflict. If rape is used as a tool during war, not armed robbery, how can this author suppose she knows better?
I'm not done with the book, so have no idea where she puts Male Responsibility alongside the stupid, weak-willed, lying, "raped feminists" she keeps lambasting. We'll see...
Again -- not only does she show a lack of empathy, she's arrogant and NASTY.
However getting emotional with Miss Thing is going to get me nowhere. So I must be calm, and controlled. And consult with fellow smarty feminazis, I mean, fem-lovers to help strategize.

I hear ya, sister!
There is already so much anger in the world, why do we need more of that energy. Feminism is very important, women standing up for women, men standing up for women, women standing up for men - all important. But, there has got to be a way to do it without hate.
Did you end up meeting with her?
Sending you love, friendship and support.
not yet -- i'm going to try and get an interview with her. it bothers me that she's constructed her career out of being this contrarian voice at any cost. "bothers" is an understatement.x
