My Lunch with Lydia (Lunch)

Had a great meeting with Anat. Starting to hone in on who this Nancy character is -- she is fragmented, there is Nancy the "bad girl" and Nancy the "good girl" and some areas of cross over and general confusion and inbetweenness. I've always felt a little schizo, we all are, depending on our context, so now I actually divide up the fragments and give them shape. Or try to.
Anat didn't know who Annie Sprinkle or Nan Goldin were -- two of my early inspirations, so I sent her a bunch of links and then started to travel on the Information Super Highway and fell upon Lydia Lunch. Got really inspired all over again. She's fearless and angry and dirty and brilliant. Quite simply, she rocks. http://www.lydia-lunch.org/you_are_not_safe.html
I also tracked Miriam down, my former bellydancing teacher who I followed and filmed almost six years ago. She is now dancing for the Inbal Dance troupe in Tel Aviv. She was young when I filmed her, and I captured an incredible year for her, as she became religious, got into an arranged marraige, got married, left him... so much has happend to us both. I'm thrilled to see how successful she is: www.miriamdance.com. I think she really belongs in the narrative --she is sort of a parallel to me. I hope she's open to reconnecting with me -- and allowing the camera back into her life. On my website, she's the one with the beaded dress and the hands folded in her lap. Everything I filmed of her was absolutely beautiful.
I feel a little shy about barging back into her life, telling her my story, we're both much older, maybe more protective? Maybe just I am, anyway, that's what I'm here for.

Checked out Miriam's website, what a beautiful dancer she is. So wonderful to see her dedication to her art paralleled with your own after you went your separate ways for a time. Definitely would love to see this parallel presented in your film and it would be an interesting investigation for you.
